What made it so funny was the face that popped into my mind when I heard the voice. She very much reminded me of a former colleague who switched professions when this big evil corporation I work for laid her off.

I am a Colorado Avalanche fan but I am cheering on the Canucks myself since the avs are not in and Nashville is out. The only reason I was cheering on Nashville before the Canucks is because there was a local boy on that team. But I would love to see the Canucks take it. Luongo is one of my favorite players.I also love the fact that you used the old logo for the podcast picture, so great. And where did you get the Canucks song you played. I would love to get my hands on a copy of that. On a seperate note, I love your podcast. 69 was my first time listening. 50 cent and $1 coins are technically legal tender, though many places refuse to accept them. I’m not really sure if they get them confused with quarters, since the size is similar, or if they don’t want to be bothered with figuring them out. My tellers’ drawers back in the day took care of them no problem.

If you take those coins to a bank, they will accept them. If you happen to get a 50 cent piece older than the 1950s, they may be worth collecting, or so I’m told.

We will have to see how it goes. Last summer I started planning a road trip to Ohio to visit the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame and the NFL Hall of Fame.

I somehow managed to morph a road trip into a Jamaican resort vacation.

God only knows where we will end up if I start planning for a road trip to Alaska.

Hey Joe, we used to be able to get by with just a driver’s license and a birth certificate but we now require either a passport or an enhanced driver’s license (this is something very new) to drive across the border. I’m not sure, at this point, if the new driver’s license will suffice for flights to the U.S. or if you have to have a passport. I believe the policy is very similar coming North from the U.S.

I don’t know if this is a Canada question or a USA question but here goes. In our uber-security-centric post 9/11 what sort of papers do you have to show to cross as a Canadian driving south across the border on your way to Seattle? And what sort of papers would I have to show if I were to drive from Seattle north to Vancouver?

Pre 9/11 I used to cross the Mexican border (sometimes on foot and sometimes in a car) pretty regularly and I don’t think I was ever asked for any sort of papers crossing in either direction but that was pre 9/11.

I’ve got no excuse for not contributing to the lovey dovey episode but I didn’t so I don’t get a prize. I made myself listen** to the episode earlier tonight and I really enjoyed it. Who would have figured…

One of the things that really surprised me was the length of the relationships in most (yeah you B) of the stories. My wife and I celebrated seventeen years this past summer and that’s unusual in the crowd we run with and with the crowd we work with. I don’t want to get all sappy on ya but it was good to hear from others who have been in it for the long haul.

If you’re willing to share what did you think of the fuss over the Canadian womens hockey team skating the ice with beer and cigars after they beat USA? I couldn’t even believe it when I read it; they have womens hockey in the Olympics!? Not really, what I couldn’t believe is that the press would get uptight over a very (in my opinion) appropriate celebration. I hope it was just people in the US who were bothered by it as I like to think Canada isn’t quite as stuffy and politically correct as we have become here in the states.

As I always say I enjoyed listening and look forward to hearing the next one.

** I had to make myself listen because the title made it sound like a romance novel.

I don’t own a pool so I can’t comment first-hand on the fresh water vs. salt water maintenance issues. It does make sense that salt water is more work since salts are corrosive.

Maybe the pool industry chemists are looking for a way to incorporate corrosion inhibitors into the salt water pool.

I like salt water pools. Prior to moving to the anus of the US of A (Dallas) I had always lived near or on the Pacific Ocean. Since I didn’t know any better my first thought was ‘God NO’ when I heard about salt water pools. After spending time in a few of them I think they are great.

I have to agree with you, Rod. Bottled beer is WAY better than canned beer. I have reasons why. As a guy who has been a bartender at many weddings, parties, etc. I alway tell the host to purchase their beer in a bottle. If I have to serve the beer in glasses, it is easier to pour beer into a glass from a bottle than from a can.

Furthermore, beer stays colder longer in a bottle than in a can. The metal conducts heat from your hand at a faster rate than glass.

The best reason for drinking your beer from a bottle than from a can is simply that you look like a total redneck when drinking from the can. Drinking from a bottle is more elegant (ha ha ha).

If you ask me how I drink my beer – in a tall frosty glass. So always keep beer mugs in the freezer for me.

If you have any other booze or drinking related questions, give me a shout.

I also have a solution to your Midori problem – nothing about Midori is good. Try the Rocky Mountain Bear Fucker

1 oz Tequila
1 oz Jack Daniels (you can use Crown Royal if you like)
1 oz Southern Comfort

Pour all three ingredients in the order as listed into a glass.

Yes, the cabin is boat access only. No roads to speak of though apparently there is an old logging road that runs to the back of our water supply stream but then you would have to get across the stream and haul all your gear downhill for approx. 30 min. Dangerous no matter how you slice it!!

How to make an mp3 version of your podcast.

Older version of garageband? Go into itunes and set the importing setting to MP3. then go into garageband and tell it to export to itunes.

New version of Garageband? Export to mp3.

You can have more than 1 version of the show on your site. but you can only have 1 of them show up in the feed (itunes) just add another file and select which one will be in the feed.

I started listening with Fatman but he left about half way through when he realized that you weren’t going to flash your breasts Chrystal…..I was entertained, but then I have been drinking….I think more pics would be good……and the next time Brianna does something wrong Chrystal just tell her you are going to wear those horrendous pants to her school next time you pick her up if she does not behave, it should work like a charm…..I used to tell Talia I’d wear spandex, that always worked. I never even knew what a podcast was, so I think it was good, but more visuals would be nice. I have to go get another drink now, this is my exciting Saturday night…love you guys…

Just stumbled upon your blog post about losing your kitty, Misty.

Sorry to hear she’s gone…I’m sure you’ll miss her a lot.

We lost our kitty, Elandra, over a month ago and your post brought tears to my eyes remembering her. We rescued her at about 6 months’ old from the forest behind our barn, and she was only 9 mos old when she went to kitty heaven (she was fearless, so she eventually decided to play in traffic

I don’t have my little site finished yet, but here’s what I’ve got done so far to celebrate the wonderful impact she had on us.

Maybe Misty and Elandra will meet up as kitty angels…?

I know how violated I felt being robbed when I wasn’t even home. I can’t imagine how horrible it would be to have to face the criminal. I will keep your mom in my thoughts and prayers and hopefully she will be able to find the strength to do what she needs to do to get through this difficult time.

I’m going to remember your “incentives” later on down the road when my kids are doing the same thing as I am sure they will. I think it was a good idea.

When I was young, I refused to clean my room. Okay maybe I still don’t like to clean, but my mom.. she likes to clean. Anyway.. she tried putting quarters on my bureau on Sunday and for every day my room wasn’t clean, she’d take one away. Even at the age of 8, 9 or 10.. whatever it was, I knew that 25 cents was a bargain.

Only 10 bucks? You know how much groceries I could buy with that if I used coupons?

Did it work? Yes? Well then, nothing to feel bad about. And as a bonus, they’re still getting along and they’ve already been paid. Really, I don’t see anything wrong with how you handled it. There are far worse things you could have done to stop the bickering, and the one thing you did do had lasting results.

Nothing wrong with some incentive. It is the same as saying “If you are good while I shop, you can get a candy bar” which I know was used by parents, and I have used from time to time as well. It gives the kids something to look forward to and you get peace! Don’t feel bad, we all do it from time to time.

I don’t think I’ve ever changed a post unless it was written with the express belief that I would change it. Such as, a “to do” list – where I later go back and mark off the done items.

If I were to be in a situation such as this, I would leave the post in tact and write a new one in addition. Simply expanding or re-explaning how you feel about something is perfectly acceptable. I see no reason why you’d have to remove a blog entry simply for the purpose of sharing more thoughts on a subject.

I have only “tweaked” my posts if I found a grammatical error – even if it’s days later. I know by then the post has been swept up by Google or any other trolling system BUT, if anyone ELSE comes by to take a look at it, I want to make sure it’s in good order.

I rarely go back and change the content, even if I feel differently or if it is no longer valid. I have added “Update:” to an addendum, but that’s about the extent of it.

If understand your thoughts about the Cookie Stand and it’s great. Just leave it mostly the way it is.

We had an argument about something at a different time, I I talked about the core issue of the argument, not the argument itself. He could have just heard the show and used it against me even though it had nothing to do with him.

You know, I’ve had Jason go back and remove a segment from the show. In the interest of full disclosure, it wasn’t for the reason that I wasn’t astisfied. It was actually because of an issue I was having with my EX regarding something I had spoken on in the show. In order to avoid him running across the show and the segment and using it as fuel to fan an already raging fire, I had him remove the segment.

I don’t see anything wrong with rewriting the post, however I’d just delete that one and make an entirely new one, otherwise it might not be read.

I just found your blog today and I really liked the ¨Love thy neighbor¨ post. I grew up in Minnesota and somehow ended up in Mexico. My eyes have been opened up living here..We are all just people, nobody is better or worse. When you think about it where you were born is just luck. The only way to peace is to balance out the world and let everyone have a piece of the pie.

I’ve been a Canadian living and working amongst Americans..infiltrating sort of.

And like both Jason and Redboy suggest, the “real” people from both countries are more alike than different. I grew up about 20 miles from the US border near Niagara Falls and have always been of the opinion that when it comes to patriotism both country could take a little bit from each other. That is, Canadians should really kick it up a notch and the Americans could tone it down a bit.

I have done my best to spread a little Canadian patriotism and passion in more than just hockey and educating folks here in the DC area about Canada.

As both countries near their national birthdays in July, this was a very well timed post.

I think you should be an ambassador of Canadian education for the U.S. Like I’ve said before, I don’t really have a Canadian preference. I actually consider you all just like us, but with national health care and cheaper meds.

I love blogging and podcasting because it gives you the chance to meet and learn about other people and cultures without the ever helpful media spin.

It’s funny how close your country is to ours; people cross that border daily for visits and for work and I’d imagine most of them take the “open gate” for granted. I’ve never lived near that border and don’t really interact much with Canadians since we’re so far south west. Other than a few small differences we’re pretty much the same. I didn’t realize that there isn’t much patriotism in Canada, I have seen people on occasion wear the maple leaf on their clothing but you rarely see people wearing an American flag on their shirt. When some major catastrophe occurs here we all race to the store to purchase flags and show our pride and support. As you probably know when 9/11 occurred there we’re American flags all over the place showing our support and pride in our country and to show that our heart/support went out to those that have fallen.

Like I said I don’t interact much with Canadians, you guys have your silly little holidays just like we do. Of course jokingly on various podcasts you and I booth listen to (yeah I’m taking about RedBoy) it really shows how much we don’t know about each other. Hopefully by you calling US podcasts and leaving voicemails you’ll teach us dumb American something.

I’ve love to hear more about your experiences in Canada and how things differ from here to there. Teach me something Chrystal.

For years, whenever I’ve said that I blog, friends have looked at me as if I just sprouted two heads. Then MySpace hit the scene, and they all signed up and considered themselves bloggers, too. Puh-leze. One-by-one they’re switching to other platforms, buying their own domains, and finding out that the interaction it provides — not to mention the worldwide friendships — can be amazing.

So then I bought an iPod. In theory it was to wear at night to drown out the sound of my husband’s snoring. Unfortunately, that didn’t work, but I started downloading podcasts. Far too many of them to listen to in one day, as a matter of fact, and since I’m a SAHM like you I have a hard time making the extra hours needed to listen to all the podcasts to which I’m subscribed.

So I mentioned podcasts to my friends and NOW they’re all saying, “Podcasts, huh? Ok, I’ve GOT to check that out.” I guess since I was right about blogging, they’re willing to trust me on this one.

My MIL, however, just chuckled when I told her about them. Her response, “Honey, that’s nothing new. We just used to call them Radio Shows.”

Good post. Made me feel all warm and fuzzy. I’ve tried to convert several of my friend to listening to podcasts. They just don’t seem to “get it.” My best friends listens to our show when I remind her, but she doesn’t even have an mp3 player, so it’s always on her computer that she listens.

You are far from a thorn in our sides; every one of us loves feedback. I hope you guys are thinking about coming out to PME even though you’re not officially podcasters.
